Over the centuries, history has been embellished by often-conflicting explanations, many in the realm of rationalizing hindsight. Can there be an accurate method of analysis that enables us to acquire clear insights into the past and even foresight into the future? In Colligation: Covering Law and Colligation: Two Theories of Historical Explanation for Decision-Making Applications, author Dr. Gregory James Lunde states that this is not only possible but is now happening.
The author examines two contrasting seminal theories of history that enhance our ability "to understand, anticipate, judge, and manage events as they occur in particular environments." He compares the covering law theory of Carl Hempel with colligation, the subsuming evidence approach of W. H. Walsh. The author demonstrates how these theories provide effective decision-making techniques. His method enables decision makers to achieve a rational (historical) understanding of their circumstances and effectively manage their enterprises.
Dr. Lunde's career has combined academic study with practical application. He is a Certified Management Consultant (CMC) and has worked with businesses such as 3M, Hughes, DEC, the Bank of North Dakota, as well as U.S. and North Dakota government agencies.
He holds a M.A. (A.M. Honors) from the University of South Dakota and a M.B.A./M.A. Dual Degree from the Claremont Graduate University, California, where he was a University Fellow. His Ph.D. is from the Southern California Institute, Western Pacific University, Honolulu, HI.
